Your network equipment should be configured with the right time, and if appropriate – the right time zone as well. Here are some commands that may be helpful if you’re setting the clock on your Cisco IOS network gear. US Eastern time zone is used in the example, substitute your correct timezone on your equipment. Example time is 9:00am January 31, 2013 – substitute your correct date and time.

  • clock timezone EST -5
  • clock summer-time EDT recurring
  • clock set 09:00:00 31 January 2013
  • write mem

This example will help you set the system clock manually. If you will be synchronizing time  automatically via NTP, you will need to add the NTP servers to your configuration. Verify your correct IOS system time with a command like the following.

  • show clock
