Nautilus Connect to Windows Share

Linux users can connect to Windows file shares using the Gnome Nautilus GUI file browser. Here are some notes that may be helpful:

  • Ctrl+L or menu “Go – Location” to enter or edit smb://… file server connection info (URI).
  • Menu “File – Connect to Server…” and use the “Windows Share” option.
  • *** Make sure to apply all system updates for possible Samba / SMB / Cifs file share connectivity bug fixes
  • If you’re having problems connecting, try using ALL CAPITAL LETTERS for the server name and domain namepossible bug with the recent Ubuntu or Nautilus “Connect to Server” tool.
  • Nautilus Location URI syntax example for Windows domain users and file servers: smb://MYDOMAIN;myusername@SERVERNAME/ShareName/
